We had a fantastic evening in Singapore at Thursday’s ‘Sip For Good’ event celebrating the end of “Movember” and International Men’s Day. Appreciate everyone who could join us.

This past month, I’ve been raising awareness for men’s cancers, male mental health and suicide prevention. The following quotes from last few days/weeks highlight why.

1. “Sital, with the pace of change, ambiguity & constant learning that we’ll all need to be doing with disruptive technologies, the mental health & wellbeing of our teams and ourselves needs to be front & center to ensure we reap the benefits from new technologies.”
– Sanjay Patel, Generative AI/ML Head, EMEA, Amazon Web Services (AWS)

2. “Having lost two male friends to suicide in Singapore, I can’t stress enough the importance of addressing men’s mental health and suicide prevention openly.”
– Male Entrepreneur, Singapore

3. “From a young age, men often hear that they’re supposed to be tough & hide their emotions – basically, ‘fake it till you make it.’ So it’s much harder for men to actually get help for their mental health than it might seem.”
– Evan Lim, Student, Temasek Polytechnic Singapore

4. “Maintaining a balance between professional commitments & personal life is critical for mental health. I have bad days/bad weeks. The key is to remain disciplined in getting ‘back on track’ when I lose my routine and balance. And providing the leadership & role modelling for our teams to show the importance of wellbeing & mental health.”
– Sandy Gupta, VP, Chief Industry & Innovation Officer, Microsoft Asia

5 “Male suicide levels are horrific – 3 times more men commit suicide globally than women. In many countries, it’s 5 times more. I’m glad to support this event, Sital – we need to help normalize these conversations on men’s mental health & cancers.”
– Robyn Dittrich GAICD, VP Global Operations Programs, BHP

6. “Sital, like you – I’ve had an early-stage cancer diagnosis, I truly value my health. I would encourage all men to stay up to date with medical checks. Miss a meeting or skip a conference call, but don’t miss a health check-up.”
– Male Senior Partner, Global Management Consulting Firm

7. “It’s so good to see healthy eating options at an event, Sital (the moustaches added a fun touch!) Workplaces need to make it easier to be healthy; through healthier food, flexible work and support in managing stress.”
– Female, HR Professional, Technology

👨‍⚕️ Wellbeing, Cancer prevention & Mental Health are important for all genders – not just men. Male stigma around these themes is why Movember exists.
